Non-Fiction: Life Goal

[Key Word: CROWD]

“What do you want to be when you grow up, Angela?“

“I want to be a criminal.“

*cue record screeching cringe*

Wait- What?

Perhaps you think I’m joking. After all, who would write something like this?

But what if I told you that it wasn’t written in jest?

2 Timothy 3:1-5 + Isaiah 5:20 + Amos 5:7 + [2 Peter 2:1] + Malachi 3:15 + Romans 7:21

There may come a time in our lifetime, when good is viewed as bad, and bad as good. Moral relativism is a thing.

In fact- It’s already happening, as you will see if you so much as turn on the news or glance at the news page.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

I don’t want to be a passive Christian who goes along with the ways of the world and simply does the bad along with the good.

I don’t want to be a Christian who when others hear of my beliefs they’ll think- “Really? I didn’t know she was any different than us.“

I don’t want to be a Christian who idly sits by the fight and refuses to join in because they might lose something. Or the person who sits by the sidelines and doesn’t cheer.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Well if following Christ is a crime in the world I’m growing up in-

If trying to stand out from the crowd of *bad* and be a *light* is a crime-

And if wanting to actively be trying to accomplish objective “good“ and fight against the objective “bad“ that has been flipped around is a crime-

Well then.

What do I want to be?

I want to be a criminal.

Romans 1:16

What about you? What do you want to be when you grow up?

Fiction: Burned

[Key Word: ROASTED]

Smoke billowed- bringing tears to my eyes.

Hastily I brushed them aside, and continued the monotonous job. I saw him glance over at me, and I prayed the darkness would hide my face.

How long would I be able to keep it on? The mask- How much longer ‘til it slipped?

Another flame jumped into the night sky, and I inadvertently jumped back.

Unpredictable.

Just like everything else in my life.

“Hey, you okay?“

I started again. His voice was gentle and kind, yet I found my hands shaking.

How was I to answer? The words ‘I’m good‘ failed to pass through my lips, and I felt myself compelled to tell the truth.

With a tear sliding down my face, I replied, “I’m dying.“

The silence wasn’t broken until my roasted marshmallow slipped into the fire and burned. Just like my mask.

Slipped off and burned.

Non-Fiction: Shine

[Key Word: ROASTED]

Everyone likes a good bonfire in the winter. Nothing beats roasted marshmallows in s’mores on a cold winter night.

(Okay, I know there are some people who don’t like bonfires. . .or s’mores. . .oof, that must be rough.)

The other day I was at a friends house roasting s’mores, and as I watched the fire dance I realised how powerful it was.

Power isn’t usually something used to describe fire, or light, but I found it fitting. With a single fire, the entire five foot radius was warmed. With a single light source, the whole backyard patio was lit.

My world, as was, was lit (literally) and warm. All because of a single fire.

That got me thinking (not much doesn’t). What if I’m a light?

“”You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A little light can make a lot of a difference. Have you ever struck a match in the dark? The bigger and thicker the darkness- the brighter the light shines.

A single light can make a world of difference.

I want to be a light. Whether at co’op, or church, or home, I want to shine in a way that could only be Jesus through me.

What does this look like, you ask? Unconditional love, endless joy, gentle patience— the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22).

Everyone has fuel and oxygen to burn. The question is- Will you let God light it?

Hello and Welcome!

Look who’s stumbled upon my tiny corner of the internet!

Hello, Human.

And welcome to my blog.

Perhaps you came here by recommendation. Perhaps you stumbled upon this place by yourself. Either way- I’m glad to have you.

Let me clear up a couple things for you before you venture out to explore the rest of this blog.

What is Key Word?

Key Word is a blog I created that dives into single word prompts and elaborates on them- from both a fiction aspect and a non-fiction view.

How does Key Word work?

Posts are uploaded once a week (with an occasional bonus!). They alternate between fiction and non-fiction works. Every pair (a fiction and non-fiction piece) is based off the same word. Anything from “broken” to “caffeine”.

What should I expect from Key Word?

Expect the unexpected, and you won’t be disappointed.

Well, that’s it for housekeeping details! (or would it be “blog-keeping details”? Hm.)

I hope I haven’t scared you off, and you decide to stick around for a bit.

Donec iterum, Friend!
